Whitstable Counselling and Psychotherapy PracticeProvides a variety of therapeutic services, to meet the needs of individuals, couples and those experiencing PTSD (post traumatic stress). I also provide clinical supervision for individuals and groups and work with organisations to help facilitate change and support staff groups.
My name is Deborah Gibbons and I have been working as a therapist since 1991. I have always been drawn to helping people help themselves. I initially trained as a counsellor and went on to train as a psychotherapist and also supervise other therapists. I have worked for the NHS and as a tutor for trainee therapists at the University of Kent.
I have a Masters degree in psychotherapy, accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapists and work with the UKCP and BACP Code of Ethics.
During the sessions I will help you explore your issues, uderstand why they have come about and help you come up with strategies of working with them. These could be anxiety, depression, fear of making mistakes, anger, OCD, post traumatic stress or eating disorders, to name but a few. Sometimes I combine different therapeutic models to help you uncover the reasons why you struggle in a certain way and help you bring about change and have a more fulfilled life.
Therapy for Individuals include: counselling, psychotherapy, group therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR for post traumatic stress, therapeutic support for those in the early stages of dementia, cancer or other life threatening diseases and bereavement counselling.
All therapy sessions are confidential.
"Unsure of how the help Deborah offered would work, if it would work. I was sceptical that it could. Over a period of several months, she helped me through the anxieties of my present problems and gave me insights into issues buried from my past. Whatever skills she brought to our sessions, all I know was that they worked and helped me reconnect to the world and gain more self-respect that I had for months. Being extremely professional and friendly helped me back on my feet. Thank you"
